Chris established Mill in 2004, having spent the previous 20 years in private practice, gaining experience across the full spectrum of development sectors.

His career has seen him specialising in the detailed design of buildings, particularly their fixtures and fittings, interior and exterior spaces.  He has extensive experience in construction issues and the management of architectural projects on site.

A thorough understanding of building materials and construction methods enables his practical approach to design, ensuring all aspects of the final product are executed successfully.  This knowledge has been used on a wide range of building types, styles and scales.

Chris has an enthusiasm for using natural materials, particularly timber and this is reflected in his architecture and furniture design.

A hands-on architect, Chris has undertaken building projects, in his own right, using his knowledge of construction and joinery.

What gets me out of bed:

The Team:

  • The folk who make up Mill are the most dedicated and decent people I have ever worked with.

Architecture:

  • The re-purposing of rural and industrial vernacular buildings. I love rooting around in old, imagining new uses for the them and putting this into practice.

Furniture Design:

  • Chris is a designer and maker of bespoke furniture, using locally-sourced hardwoods and steel to create a style that reflects the vernacular architecture he loves
