Project Description

Gatherleys, New House, Near Dunning, Perthshire

Back in 2009, one of Mill Design’s early projects was the family home of our very own Richard Webb.

From the outside, the structure fits seamlessly into its environment, using a traditional shape and a rustic palette. The interior is warm, comfortable and contemporary, with clean lines and open spaces for the family to make their own.

We were keen to keep the environmental impact and cost of artificial heating to a minimum, which fed into our design choices. The use of natural, breathing construction materials has made the building much warmer, and the vast windows on the south-facing wall maximise the effect of direct sunshine.

The design capitalises on the glorious views of highland Perthshire to the north. Echoes of the mountains can be found in the steep rake of the roof and the local granite  floors.

Despite the rural setting and environmental emphasis, this bespoke timber clad house has proven to be a flexible home for modern family living.
