We can create bespoke designs that work within your existing shell or produce sensitive additional space, as required. We believe each project no matter the size is equally important. All designs and interventions are focused on what is appropriate to the building. The condition of the existing building is our first focus. Its social, historical, and aesthetic significance is explored, and appropriate solutions created to suit the aspirations of the Client.
Grant Funded Projects
Mill is RIAS Advanced Conservation Accredited, which enables our Clients to obtain Grant Funding. We currently have projects on site, which are receiving Scottish Government Funding, Heritage Lottery Funding, Edinburgh World Heritage Grants and local THi/CARS funding. We can assist our Clients to apply for grants, preparing tender packages and overseeing the works on site.
WHAT WE DO
MILL are regularly appointed to develop Building Inspection Reports for a wide variety of properties. In the first instance an Inspection Report is an excellent way to ascertain the overall condition of your property.
For the majority of grant funded projects an initial report is required by a Conservation Accredited Professional. MILL are RIAS Advanced Conservation Accredited and can assist with starting this process. We can prepare reports for single properties or properties with multiple ownership.
All elements of the external fabric including roofs, chimneys , gutters and stonework will be assessed and recommendations provided for necessary (if any) remedial works.
Once the report has been prepared, remedial works can be carried out as desired by the Client. MILL can prepare tender packages and oversee the works on site.
Costs for our Reports vary depending on the size and condition of the property and associated defects, and can be tailored to suit the Client’s requirements.
If your property is in need of repair or if you are suffering from water ingress problems MILL can assist by identifying the defect and advising/implementing the repair works required. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
MILL can tailor services to the needs of the Client. Our full services can be provided for larger works to ensure the required standard is maintained and good quality materials are used.
For smaller repairs, services can be reduced to minimise unnecessary costs for the Client.
MILL will always ensure that works are carried out to a competent standard by tradesmen who have the appropriate skills.
In order to achieve best value for money it is recommended that costs are provided from at least three Contractors, pricing from a thoroughly prepared tender document. MILL can prepare this tender package and provide guidance to direct the Client to reputable Contractors, ensuring appropriate repair techniques and best practice.
Where works are Grant aided, the involvement of a Conservation Accredited Specialist is obligatory. MILL have an in house, Advanced Conservation Accredited Architect, who can provide this service.
